WHAT IS YOGA
THERAPY
- Yoga
Therapy is the adaptation of Yoga practices to individual
needs, taking into account medical considerations
and personal circumstances.
- Yoga
Therapy practitioners are qualified Yoga Teachers
with at least 2 years further training in medicine
and applications of Yoga to medical conditions.
- Yoga
Therapy is very safe when taught by a qualified Yoga
Therapist. Factors such as age, size, health conditions
and fitness levels are taken into account and used
to formulate safe and appropriate yoga sequences
to do at home. This empowers people to look after
their own health, thus leading to client satisfaction
and wellbeing.
- Yoga
Therapy can be practised alongside traditional medical
treatments and in tandem with other complementary
therapies.
- Yoga
Therapy is now recognised in the NHS Register for
Complementary and Alternative Practitioners and Kathryn
is one of the few Yoga Teachers in N. Ireland listed
on it.
What Does Yoga Therapy Consist of?
Physical Postures:
These consist of simple movements and traditional
yoga postures, which promote a general sense of
health and
well being.
Breathing Techniques:
Awareness of the breath is central to all forms of
Yoga and promotes calmness, helping to focus the
mind, and relieving stress and mental fatigue.
Relaxation
Methods:
Learning how to relax is a central element of Yoga
Therapy. Relaxation is the body’s way of
recharging, and helps to ease physical and mental
tension.
Relaxation techniques help us to
cope better with situations that put the body and
mind under strain.
How do you start Yoga Therapy?
You can
begin to practice Yoga and benefit right away, even
if you have never done Yoga before. All you
need is comfortable clothing!
Yoga Therapy starts
with a one-to-one consultation which will help your
Yoga Therapist to ascertain
your state of health and lifestyle. On this basis
they will
recommend a suitable Yoga therapy class or further
one-to-one sessions, according to your needs.
The
individual sessions commence with the completion
of a confidential form which will provide further
information to the Therapist regarding the condition(s)
which Yoga
Therapy will address, associated health problems
and related lifestyle factors.
This is followed
by a series of individual sessions which blend postural,
breathing and relaxation
techniques. It starts with very simple exercises
which will develop
at a pace appropriate to the client. In consultation
with the client, sequences will be designed
to use at home.
An individual Yoga therapy session
lasts for an hour and the number and regularity of
the
sessions
is
agreed according to both parties commitments. |
